Redcar, South Gare

Facilities:-
Park by the road. Although this says it is a private road, I have been told that it is OK to use as long as you do not abuse it.

Features:-
From the car park we usually head south, back towards the town. Nice lot of sand.
If the tide is out, going north is quite good - called bran sands.

View:-
The industrial view is not very pretty.
Good for watching ships coming in and out of port.

Wildlife:-
Various waders, gulls, grebes, shearwaters, and passing migrants in the bushes.
In winter regularly see snow bunting near the dunes.

Doggie Rating:-
  • Like it
  • Can get well away from the road
  • Enough other dogs to greet, but not too many

Staithes

Facilities:-
Park in the car park - which has toilets.

Features:-
Walk down into town, which is quite quaint. Then down steps onto beach. If you are lucky and the tide is out(rarely for us) you can scramble over the rocks. Have found some nice pieces of jet there.

View:-
Cliffs and sea, and harbour.

Wildlife:-

Doggie Rating:-
  • Sweet place
  • Once on the beach we get a little run
  • Good for a bit of beach combing
